Day 4 of 167 - Mt. Vernon to Marysville, WA

Today’s 30 miles are dedicated to:

-WWII U.S. Navy Veteran Clarence Marsh

-Gunner on the U.S. Aircraft Carrier Ommaney Bay

-Marsh fought in the Battle of Leyte Gulf in the Philippines (The Largest Naval Battle of World War II with over 200,000 naval personnel involved) in 1944.

-At some point, he came under attack from Japanese kamikaze pilots and ended up in the sea

-He was Missing In Action for months, and later found

-Marsh was awarded TWO Purple Hearts

It was honor to meet his grandson Randy Nobach tonight. Clarence Marsh’s daughter is Patty Nobach.

May the Nobach family take great pride in knowing they are descendants of one of the “Greatest Generation”. Bravery. Courage. Heroism. The list goes on. America thanks Clarence Marsh for his service and sacrifice. May we all be grateful for The American Soldier.
